Beak to Beak: Meeting Twarmic Tweeps at Twestival Hong Kong

Beak to Beak: Meeting Twarmic Tweeps at Twestival Hong Kong

This is a title we thought we’ll never write. Not much related to angel investors is it? Although, attending Twestival Hong Kong will still make you some kind of angel — the charity fundraising and money-donating kind.

Venture Hype likes angels of all kinds. We did our small part and donated too. Now’s your turn.

Twestival Hong Kong is part of Twestival Local — a Twitter-related festival that takes place in cities all over the world. It’s a great opportunity for local twitterers (or tweeps or tweeters or tweeple or twiticens or whatever you want to be called right now) to meet each other and hang out, all while raising money for worthwhile local charities. The first global Twestival was held in February 2009 and had 202 cities participate, raising enough money to give clean water to 16,000 people. That’s a lot of thirst quenched.

Now, Twestival Locals are springing up all around the world to continue the legacy, and of course Hong Kong participates. If you’re in Hong Kong on September 12, 2009 (Saturday), join Twestival Hong Kong! It starts at 8:30pm and will be held at two neighboring clubs – the Culture Club Gallery and Guru. Get more details on Twestival Hong Kong’s blog listed in the “Links” section below.

Here’s what you’ll find when you show up (note that we’ve written it in Twitter-friendly hashtags):

#livebands
#DJs
#comedians
#prizesgalore
#networking
#meetlocaltweeters
#AndMoreTweetingThanYouCanShakeAStickAt

Oh, and did we mention: you’ll #raisemoney for #charity? Just show up, pay the entrance fee, tweet until your thumbs fall off, and you’ll be raising money for Twestival Hong Kong’s selected cause, Po Leung Kuk Orphanage’s Language Training Program, and having a blast while you do it. (We’d call that karma, except in the Twitterverse we’re sure it’s called Twarma).

Kudos to Twitter. This is another example of a very positive result from what I initially thought of as a fairly casual, unproductive passtime of “tweeting”.

I wonder what percentage of these Twitter enthusiasts typically meet each other face to face?

From what we see in our Twitter stream, some tweeps hold regular tweetups which we think is kinda cool. Seems like many projects and collaborations have been formed via Twitter.

Ha! That is so funny and at the same time it is also pretty awesome and cool!. It seems like Twitter is so essential for businesses and etc these days to get their point out and what not. Tweeting in general is just fun, but can be weird b/c of stalkers….<–sorry out of topic.

I was very impressed by the balance shown in a recent pair of postings to Venture Hype by a guest author. Many news writers don’t even try to iron out bias or preference and I saw a really good-faith, conscious effort here that made me a subscriber!
